Liu Yi was born in 1990 in Ningbo (China)
She graduated from the China Academy of Fine Arts – School of Intermedia Art for the Bachelor’s degree and obtained a Master’s degree from the China Academy of Fine Arts in 2012 and 2016 respectively. He currently lives in Hangzhou. “The first Chinese art films and experimental animation” are his main research direction. His video works include “Origin of Species”, “Chaos Theory”, “A Travel Inward”, “Into The Void”, “A Crow Has Been Calling for a Whole Day” etc. He develops different media through animation and creates environmental and site specific installations to reflect on his experience of daily life and to discover the multiple possibilities of the exhibition space to get in tune with the subjects of his works. Through his eclectic projects, the public is called to discover a different and parallel world. In 2017 “A Crow Has Been Calling for a Whole Day” was selected and presented at the Animation Film Festival (HAFF) and subsequently received a “Special Recommendation” from the Hua International Short Film Festival. Liu Yi was invited to participate in the SeMa Nanji Residency Project, hosted by the Seoul Museum of Art in Seoul in 2018. In 2019 invited to the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, Residenze di Artisti Anjou, the same year she was also invited to participate in the jury of the Film Festival of Animation of Cyprus The video work “Chaos Theory” is part of the collection of White Rabbit, Contemporary Chinese Art Collection.
