From la terra dei fuochi, the land of fire, riddled with toxic waste and poisoned by organised crime, to the terra dei fiori, a land of flowers, a place for gerberas, chrysanthemums and daisies to grow. Art has made flowers into an expression of regeneration, beauty and spirituality. This is a project that uses photography, video and documentation to tell the tales of a place and describe the solitary beauty of the Reggia di Caserta, which has been a witness over the years to the violent transformation of Campania.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is promoted by the Reggia di Caserta in collaboration with aA29 Gallery Art Project, Milano\/Caserta and with the support of the Ministero dei beni e delle attivit\u00e0 culturali e del turismo and the Comune di Caserta. The event has been made possible with the support of Oliveo.it, Grand Hotel Vanvitelli, Axa Assicurazioni Loffredo Caserta, Artec, Costa Service, International Broker Art, Fondazione Mario Diana.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is accompanied with a catalogue in Italian and English with images of the project and texts by Gabi Scardi and the curator.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition hosted in the magnificent rooms of the piano nobile of the Palace, includes large dimension photographs, drawings, video and documentation that describe \u201cThe route that has led Vinci\/Galesi to use flower to investigate individual identities, as well as the forgotten places marked by abandonment, neglect, and civil degradation\u201d. \u201cAgainst all this\u201d, the curator adds, \u201cthey set the luxuriant blooming of nature, identifying it as an element of wonder, as the expression of the will to find redemption. It is an attempt at inversion, the expression of a need to overcome the impasse of the current situation that art must undertake. In order to demonstrate how honesty, beauty and dignity can germinate even from the most extreme state of neglect\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Vinci\/Galesi\u2019s images are filled with contrasting elements. They are set in contexts with great symbolic value, such as a beach where the sea and the land compete for supremacy, or in an abandoned quarry populated with the remains of stones. The two artists stand completely wrapped in a colourful, flowery drape, hiding any somatic traits. They appear like a spirit disseminating colour and a future in the greyness and neglect of the present. The drape the artists are wrapped in is hand made by stitching thousands and thousands of flowers onto ethereal fabrics, in observance with a tradition of a religious celebration in another complex and difficult land: the area of Ragusa, a coastline where scores of desperate people have arrived in recent years from the other side of the Mediterranean, fleeing the war, a place where the bodies of many without any hope were washed up. The beauty of the places captured in the photographs of some of the most recent projects, is a contrast that makes the limits of the human condition even more jarring. Vinci\/Galesi offer transitory visions, as fleeting as the beauty of a flower, a wonder destined for swift dissolution.<\/p>\n<p>The floral element transforms, animates and hides. It is a natural presence that holds within itself a universe of meanings that spread their roots deep into ancient mythology. Flowers are an image of life, rebirth and the cycle of the seasons. They are emblems of the fragility of the contemporary world, an image of joy and mourning. Of eros animating earthly love, and peace releasing the celestial one.<\/p>\n<p>On the day of the inauguration of the exhibition (20th May), Vinci\/Galesi will present a performance together with two groups of bardatori from Scicli and a black Friesian stallion, Eros, gathered in a group completely covered with flowers. Transformed into floral evocations, they will move through the gardens along the telescope portico designed by Vanvitelli to give visitors to the palace a vertiginous perspective vision, and then climb to the piano nobile of the palace along the majestic central staircase of the residence.<\/p>\n<p>As the curator, Daniele Capra, writes in his text: \u201cIn a symbolic way, the performance suggests the mimetic and metaphorical potential intrinsic to the floral element, which the artists take to the furthest possible degree. The simple, proud beauty of the gerberas and chrysanthemums embodies the reaction to the disintegration of a territory controlled by organized crime, and to the pollution caused by waste. It is the metaphor of the possible overturning of this forceful imprisonment, it is the dream of rebellion to a situation to which, rationally, no viable solution could be found\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The project La terra dei fiori has been made possible with the assistance of the bardatori groups Le Milizie and Balucu e Pagghiara.
